Bali Rundreise /Bali Roundtrip (English version is Bellow the Gallery)

After 5 months of hanging out lazy at the same 3 to 4 surf spots, Ju, Claude and Leon came to visit us. They made a stop on their journey through Thailand, New Zealand and Australia on Bali before they traveled on to Japan. This promised us some change from surfing and also gave us the opportunity to get to know the other Bali. On the one hand, we were of course very much looking forward to our friends from Basel, whom we had not seen for a while, and on the other hand we were looking forward to some new experiences. So we arranged to meet with Claude and his family in Canggu, where, as always when we are there, we enjoyed the culinary diversity and the cocktails. For us it was a little bit unusual to have a 2 year old boy with us. In the last few months we got used to the chaotic traffic and the sometimes very promising infrastructure of this country. Now with our friends our Bebek’s (mopeds) were parked. We were now on foot 🙂 So we tried to give the little one a minimum amount of security. Not that easy. Sidewalks are often missing completely and so a small Schumi or Lauda is actually in anyone who participates in the traffic. And they do show it quiet often 🙂

Anyway after 2 days Canggu we decided to continue to Ubud. What a mysterious place – the island’s art center, you know it from movies, stories from friends and now we had the opportunity to see it up close. Well, on the first evening i got a nasty cold started and I was then 2 days in bed. Unfortunately, I missed the cooking class that I was really looking forward to 🙁 Sabrina and Ju were there and you will get to see some recipes of it. Another highlight besides the cooking class was to meet Eddie Hara and his family for dinner and this in one of the oldest restaurants in Ubud – Wayan Cafe. But still Ubud was not my thing, too much traffic and chaos for my liking, coupled with lots of people looking for peace of mind. Ubud certainly has something beautiful sights to offer (Ridge Walk, Water Palace, various temples), but as the gods supplied us too with water from above for 5 days, was not exactly a blessing.

After 5 days we moved on and crossed with Gusti, our driver, the island in direction Pemutaran. The path was really beautiful, we drove past volcanoes and lakes, through the highlands and countless really picturesque places. Since my camera is now only working when she likes, we don’t have super high-quality photos. Anyway after a long day with a lot to see, we arrived in Pemuteran, a small village in the northwest of Bali. For me, Pemuteran had something special to offer, this time in the form of a very small fishcake 🙁 Again I lay flat one day, but I’ll save you some more details 🙁 Watching temples etc which would have been cool, was impossible, I lay over the toilet, went swimming twice in the beautiful crystal clear sea and disinfected my stomach with Arak.

Still slightly weak, we made our way to Amed in the northeast. Again through picturesque jungle, monkeys on the roadside and rice fields in beautiful valleys along the Sideman Road. Here you could imagine how Bali used to be and I would recommend it to anyone to have a look. Unfortunately, the camera wasn’t working either. Sorry again no high-quality photos 🙁 Thus, you have to be content with Iphone Pic’s.
In the late afternoon we arrived in Amed. We rested briefly and enjoyed a breathtaking sunset supported by intoxicating Arak drinks.

On the way home some locals waved to us who were just about to hang out and give themselves old Rock’n Roll music. All with dreadlocks, tattoos and all what comes with it. Since we thought it was a bar, we sat down to them and ordered two beers. As it turns out, there will be a bar, but that day they had not even opened yet 🙂 Anyway they did not care and we didn’t care 🙂 We spent a fun evening there and learned more about the Indonesian culture. Again, I could bite my ass, because it would have been really nice to take pictures, but as I already mentioned …. 🙁 Iphone at night … no way 🙁
About 4 o’clock in the morning the bugs in the stomach awaked again and the next day we spent as mellow as possible. Hang out on the beach, eat out and sleep a lot.

The day after we wanted to see more of Amed and did a little scooter tour. This time the camera did work occasionally and there are a few photos. We drove round the peninsula of Amed through the “mountains” and along a steep coast. Sometimes the road was just a car wide, although there was oncoming traffic everywhere. The water of the sea was as clear as glass, no matter how far you looked. Gorgeous unforgettable moments.
But after nearly 2 weeks we slowly moved back to Balian to our dogie gang and the waves. While the other three stayed in Amed, we got driven to Balian.
The on Fridays, Claude, Ju and Leon came to visit us in Balian. We enjoyed one last evening together and Ju prepared a Thai feast for us. Next time we will see each other in Thailand in four weeks. We are already excited 🙂

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing some research on that. And he just bought me lunch since I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!

I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the structure of your site? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
