If you enter the hashtag vanlife in google, there are currently millions of entries. What vanlife is about can be argued, of course, for some it is just the relocation of a 5 star hotel into a $ 250’000 (starting Price) Ford F350 Earth Roamer for the others, there is also an old VW beetle where the passenger seat has been upgraded to a bed. I’m actually already doing that since 25 years and had everything from the Lancia thema turbo station wagon where i just put foam in the back to our relatively comfortable Sir Burnie. Here we will go through the more technical side. In our Transit (Sir Burnie) we had everything from propane heating, to solar panels, with built-in dc converter to indirect lighting. In Beach Bum Bob everything had to be a bit easier, As we didn’t have the space available to make the change again so “professional”. Neither we had the time. The plan was easy, to land in San Francisco, get the car, make the conversion as fast as possible with our friends Mitch and Angela and drive off to Mexico. The only thing on the to-do-list was to create a simple kitchen furniture, a comfortable bed and some storage space. Space moderately lacked .The 1969 Econoline is about 2 square meters smaller compared to the transit. Sounds like little but there is a lot of space missing, especially the transit was also half a meter higher. Anyway we drove to our friends and noticed on the way that we had to overtake the brake system too. So we shared the work, Sabrina built the house and I took care of its braking. The whole conversion cost about $ 500 with the second battery. It took us about one and a half days to build the battery and the kitchen shelf and for the rest another day or so. If you have questions, leave a comment. But we think the pictures speak pretty much for themselves. We lived around six months in the cart and were more than happy with it 🙂
